I think it's a mom and her babies. I can hear one full size raccoon, that's for damn sure, but there is another sound. Kinda like a seal. I looked up some sound clips of baby raccoons and adults, but I couldn't pinpoint the seal-like noise. I'm just hoping that the baby isn't too far down the wall that the mother can't get to it. The only real option at this point is to hope they leave on their own, or that animal control can get them out without having to cut into the wall. If nothing can be done then I'm gonna have to stay at my house until the whole ordeal is over with. I'm only a few feet from the spot where it is.. and it sounds awful. If whatever it is, is really stuck down there, I'm sure it will only start to sound worse as time goes on. And even though I'm not a vegetarian anymore, I still wouldn't be ok with doing everything possible to save it. So it would probably be better for me not to be around if that's the case.
Some stories I found on the internet suggest that there isn't much we can do, and if it dies in there, the smell will be bad, and it won't go away that quick.
I noticed the sound of an animal in the attic last week, but Marc tried to convince me that it was the wires hitting against the house from the wind. Well a couple days ago he was here and heard it for himself, and knew that this was definitely an animal. It just sucks that it ended up in the wall.
I'de try to sleep but the sound of scratching will probably just keep me awake.
